Abstract

Nigeria has achieved impressive development record since independence in 1960. Nevertheless, the country is still grappling with developmental challenges such as high poverty rate among the citizenry, high youth unemployment, lack of access to basic needs/goods but just to mention a few. It is against this backdrop that the study investigated the impact of Entrepreneurship on Poverty Alleviation among the Youth in Southwest Nigeria in COVID-19 pandemic era. The specific objectives were to examine the impact of Skill acquisition on poverty alleviation, the impact of job creation on poverty alleviation and impact of wealth creation on poverty alleviation among the youth in Southwest Nigeria in COVID-19 pandemic era. The study adopted a descriptive and inferential survey research design where data was collected from 25,157 registered SMEs in Southwest Nigeria, using online survey. However, only 600 respondents were able to fill and returned the online questionnaire for further analysis which was done using descriptive statistics and regression analysis via SPSS 23. Result of findings at 95% level of confidence revealed that skill acquisition, wealth creation and job creation significantly influence poverty alleviation among Nigerian youths during COVID-19 pandemic. The study recommended that Government at all levels of governance should improve on the level of awareness of the benefits of entrepreneurial activities to individual households as this will in no small measure leads to poverty reduction, eradication and outright alleviation among the teeming unemployed youth in Southwest Nigeria in particular and youth in other parts of Nigeria in
