Abstract

In many geospatial applications, including flood modeling, terrain analysis, and natural resource management, digital elevation models (DEMs) are essential. This study evaluates three different DEMs accuracy, geographic resolution, and applicability for particular regional topographic applications. Remotely sensed data was used, and geographic information system tools were employed to analyze and compare the data sets of each DEM source. As a result, it was determined that although all three models—Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)—can be utilized for studies in the "very low" and "medium" parts of Imo State, the dependability of SRTM declines with lower accuracy when looking at the "low," "high," and "very high" regions. This qualitative evaluation consistently shows ASTER and ALOS as being more accurate and dependable than SRTM, which has a tendency toward inferior accuracy. This study clarifies the advantages and disadvantages of each data source and serves as a decision-making framework for geospatial assessments in the area.
