Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the extent to which socio-cultural factors such as age, level of education, gender and electoral system determine the extent to which women participate in politics. The scientific study employed qualitative and quantitative research instruments that were administered on the women that are actively involved in politics as well as some identified women organizations. The findings showed that age, level of education, gender disparity and social prejudice all affect the women involvement in politics in Nigeria. It is believed that the data generated from this investigation would be helpful to policy makers in formulating and implementing policies that will promote gender equality in all public and political institutions
