Abstract

The importance of training and development on the performance of employees in an organization is under-emphasized and this could have significant impact on the performance of employees. This study was carried out to investigate the impact of training and development on employee job performance using Access Bank plc and United Bank for Africa (UBA), Ilaro branches as a study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design which involves the gathering of information from selected samples using a structured questionnaire. Due to small size of the population, the entire members of staff of these two banks were retained as the sample size of the study i.e. 85. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis to test the hypotheses developed by the study. From the findings, it was revealed that training and development significantly affect employee effectiveness (p<0.05) while training and development was also found to positively have a significant effect on employee job satisfaction (p<0.05). Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that banks as well as other employee-oriented organizations should implement adequate training and development programs that can enhance the performance of their employees.
