Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between delegation of authority and management efficiency using Yewa South Local Government and Imeko-Afon Local Government, Ogun State as the study areas. The independent variable which is delegation of authority was decomposed into specific delegation, general delegation and lateral delegation. The study adopted a descriptive research design which utilized a structured questionnaire as the research instrument for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and the hypotheses were tested using correlation and regression analysis. The analysis was achieved using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20. The findings revealed that specific delegation has a negative and statistically significant relationship with management efficiency (t = -3.960; p<0.05), general delegation has a positive and statistically significant relationship with management efficiency (t = 10.582; p<0.05) and lateral delegation was also found to exhibit a positive and statistically significant relationship with management efficiency (t = 10.733; p<0.05). The study concludes that delegation of authority has a significant relationship with management efficiency in the organization under study. The study recommended that delegation of authority should be encouraged in organizations in order to facilitate management efficiency.
